A massive fire broke out at Modern Furniture Pacific in Ruiru, Kiambu County, early Wednesday morning, reducing property worth approximately KSh 50 million to ashes.
The fire erupted shortly after power was restored around 6:00 a.m., following a night of blackouts. Ruiru Sub-County Police Commander Alex Shikondi suggested that a power fault could be the cause, though investigations are ongoing.
Shop owner Gibson Murage confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident, which was discovered minutes after 6:00 a.m. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby godowns, but the shop’s furniture-making machines—crucial to the business—were completely destroyed.
In a statement, Shikondi urged residents to focus on saving lives and property during emergencies, warning against theft in such situations.
Despite the significant financial loss, Murage expressed relief that no lives were lost. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and are taking steps to avert similar incidents in the future.
