
Leah Muthoni Mwaura, a director of Vasco Real Estate at Thika Law Courts on Tuesday
After a prolonged game of hide and seek, Leah Muthoni Mwaura, a director of Vasco Real Estate, has been arrested and charged at Thika Law Courts with land fraud. Muthoni, who had been evading the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), was apprehended on Monday at her hideout.
Muthoni who appeared before Principal Magistrate Yusuf Baraza was charged that on diverse dates in 2023, she, alongside others not before the court and with intent to defraud, obtained monies from two individuals by pretending she was in a position to sell them parcels of land.
According to the charge sheet, Muthoni obtained Sh 8,800,000 from Richard Kimani and Sh 1,070,000 from Joseph Kinyanjui by falsely pretending that she was in a position to sell them land in the Makongeni area.
“On diverse dates between April 25, 2023, and October 18, 2023, in Thika West Sub-County, within Kiambu County, jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud obtained from Richard Kimani, a sum of Ksh 8,800,000 by falsely pretending that you were in a position to sell him a piece of land within Kwaheri in Makongeni landless, a fact that you knew to be false,” read particulars of one of the charge sheets.
“On October 13, 2023, at Thika town within Thika West Sub-County, Kiambu County, jointly with another before the court with intent to defraud obtained from Joseph Kinyanjui a sum of one million and 70,000 by falsely pretending that you were in a position to sell him a piece of land; Kiambu/Munyu/4495 approximately 0.039 hectares within Makongeni Landless area, a fact that you knew to be false,” another charge sheet read.
The magistrate ordered police to put the accused person, who pleaded not guilty in all the charges in custody until March 3, 2025 when the matter will be mentioned for consolidation of the charges and consideration of bond terms.
“This file shall be mentioned before court number one for consideration of bond terms and for further orders. Meanwhile the accused person shall be remanded in custody. The matter will be mentioned on March 3, 2025 before court number one,” ordered Baraza.
Alongside Muthoni, Mercy Wangari Mwaura who was not in court was also charge with obtained Sh 8,800,000 by falsely pretending that she was in a position to sell.
Last week on 14th Mary Wangari Mwaura, one of the directors, was also charged at Thika jointly with others not before the court, with intent to defraud obtained from Richard Kimani a sum of Shs 8.8 million by falsely pretending that she was in a position to sell him a piece of land within Kwaheri in Makongeni, a fact she knew was false.
