In a notice issued on Friday, President William Ruto appointed former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth as the chairperson of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) National Standards Council.
Kenneth served as assistant minister and Gatanga MP during the Kibaki era.
In the same announcement, Mwangi wa Iria was named as the chairperson of the Public Procurement Regulatory Board.
Mwangi has served two consecutive terms as Murang’a county governor between 2013-2022.
These appointments come shortly after the nomination of William Kabogo, Mutahi Kagwe, and Lee Kinyanjui, who are set to undergo parliamentary vetting for consideration as Cabinet members.
However, their appointment received criticism from Kenyans, including Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi.
“Ruto has appointed Mwangi Wa Iria as the Chairperson of the Public Procurement Regulatory Board. Wa Iria is in court facing several corruption charges, including abuse of office, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, and money laundering,” Mwangi wrote on his Facebook page.
“The days of recycle politics are long gone, ruto has never had the interest of the common mwanainchi at heart, what he has been slowly manifesting day in and day out but we remain focused on one goal which is to unseat him unanimously and send him home to political oblivion where those who dishonour and betray the patriotic citizen go,” Kevin Gatua wrote on Mwang’s Facebook Comment.
