The advisory, valid until Sunday evening, warns that rainfall intensities may exceed 20mm in 24 hours, accompanied by gusty winds.
Strong southerly winds of more than 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are also expected across the eastern sector, potentially causing damage to property and infrastructure.
The counties likely to be affected include Kisumu, Homabay, Siaya, Migori, Busia, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Narok, Kajiado, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi.
The weatherman has urged residents to remain cautious, warning of possible flooding in low-lying and downstream areas. Motorists and pedestrians have been advised against driving or walking in moving water, while the public is cautioned against seeking shelter under trees or near metallic structures due to the risk of lightning.
In addition, households and institutions are encouraged to secure loose items to prevent damage from strong winds that may uproot trees, blow off roofs, or cause structural destruction.
The advisory notes that the rains are expected to persist through Sunday, October 5, before gradually reducing from Monday, October 6.
