Deputy President Kithure Kindiki Speaking during the Empowerment Forum for Small-Scale Traders in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County
Govt Allocates Sh28 Billion to Empower Hustlers in All 1450 Wards Under NYOTA Program
The government has set aside Sh28 billion to support small-scale businesses in all 1,450 wards across the country, targeting hustlers to raise their incomes and improve livelihoods.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki affirmed the government’s commitment to rolling out the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program, designed to strengthen small enterprises run by thousands of Kenyans in need of financial support.
“We are in the business of transforming Kenya from the grassroots. It is not an easy task, but we are fully committed. It will take time, but we remain focused,” said Prof. Kindiki.
Speaking during the Empowerment Forum for Small-Scale Traders in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, the DP said NYOTA is among key initiatives by the Ruto administration to uplift micro-businesses. Under the program, 70 businesses per ward will receive Sh50,000 grants.
“Many underestimate Sh50,000, but for a trader with Sh10,000 stock, this boost will significantly expand their business,” he noted.
Avoid Distractions, Demand Development – Kindiki
The Deputy President urged Kenyans to shun premature politics and instead hold leaders accountable for service delivery. He cited economic stabilization, lower unga prices, and improved earnings for farmers as some of the government’s achievements.
“We’ve stabilized the economy, revived roads, built markets, and expanded electricity access. Don’t be misled into thinking nothing has been done,” he stated.
Job Creation Milestones
Prof. Kindiki highlighted employment gains, including:
- 500,000 digital jobs (Kazi Mtandaoni)
- 250,000 jobs in affordable housing
- 200,000 jobs under Kazi Majuu
- 76,000 teachers hired in two years, with an additional 24,000 set for recruitment in September.
Additionally, the Climate WorX program, which employs 40,000 youth in Nairobi to regenerate the water system, will be expanded nationwide.
