All day primary schools in Thika Constituency are set to experience a transformative change with the launch of the Imarishe Elimu Program by Thika town Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a.
Through the new intiative parents of al day secondary schools will be required to pay shillings 2,500 per term while the constituency development fund will cater for the rest.
Additionally, the program incorporates a free feeding initiative to address the issue of student absenteeism caused by a lack of food, ensuring that all learners can attend their lessons without disruption.
Speaking during the launch at Kenyatta Primary School, Thika MP Ng’ang’a emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone of her administration.
She highlighted that hunger and financial constraints are major barriers to academic success, saying the initiative aims to address both.
Thika Sub-County Education Director Edwin Sifuna, revealed that the program has already attracted an influx of new learners from neighboring sub-counties, signaling its potential to improve overall enrollment and performance.
Ndula Secondary school Principal Beatrice Wanjau said that the program is not just about reducing fees but ensuring every child has the energy and focus to excel in their studies, she noted that most students in Thika East which is semi-arid area miss classes for lack of food which will be a thing of the past.
Parents expressed relief, noting that the reduced fees and feeding program are a significant financial reprieve reduce absenteeism and enhance learning outcomes.
