Salome-Wanjiru-at-Thika-High-Court-on-Thursday-16th-January-2025
The High Court has deferred the plea taking exercise for Salome Wanjiru, a middle-aged woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend 27 times to death.
Wanjiru is accused of stabbing Conrad Nyabuto, whose lifeless body was found at his rented room in the Gatong’ora area of Ruiru in mid-December 2024.
Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Fredrick Koome with bandages on her hand, Wanjiru, through her lawyer, prayed for re-admission at hospital after she allegedly suffered constant pain while in custody.
But her prayer was declined by prosecutor Christine Torome who argued that doctors had not indicated the need for her hospitalization in the documents availed in court.
According to the prosecution, a mental assessment was conducted on the accused person and indicates that she is fit to take a plea.
The prosecution therefore submitted that the defence’s prayers for hospitalization of Wanjiru be dismissed as being sensational and meant to delay the progress of the matter from the onset.
In his ruling, Koome noted that the discharge summary dated 14th January, 2025 when she was escorted to the hospital had not indicated the need for readmission.
The magistrate referred the matter for plea on January 20, 2025.
The accused person will remain remanded in custody at Ruiru Police Station.
