DRAMA IN MAJENGO ESTATE AS COUNTY OFFICERS CRACK DOWN ON SALON WASTE DUMPING
There was drama in Majengo Estate, Thika, Kiambu County, after county enforcement officers stormed the area targeting salon operators accused of dumping used human hair along the roads.
The operation, led by county environment officers, saw salon operators forced to join local youths in a clean-up exercise. Those who resisted the directive were arrested and their businesses temporarily closed.
Kiambu County has warned food vendors and salon operators in Majengo Estate that they risk closure if they continue with illegal dumping of human hair and food waste along the streets.
Speaking during a clean-up exercise conducted in conjunction with local youths, Environment CEC David Kuria said the county will take firm action against offenders.
“We will crack down on businesses that continue to pollute this area. Enforcement officers will be on the ground from next week to ensure compliance,” said Kuria.
He further directed salon operators along Majengo Road to adhere to proper waste disposal measures, warning that persistent violators will face strict enforcement action.
County officers confirmed that several traders who defied the clean-up order were arrested and their businesses shut down.
Kelvin Mwaura urged residents to maintain high levels of hygiene by disposing of waste in designated bins provided by the county government.
John Wairagu, a university student and local resident, called on students living in Majengo and surrounding estates to take part in keeping the area clean, saying collective responsibility is key to a healthier environment.
The county has since indicated that enforcement teams will remain deployed in the area to ensure compliance with waste management regulations.
