President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to reforming the African Union (AU) to better serve the continent’s interests.
Speaking in Kilgoris, Narok County, after a meeting with African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, President Ruto emphasized the need for structural reforms to enhance the AU’s efficiency and effectiveness.
“We are implementing reforms at the African Union to ensure it can effectively champion the continent’s priorities,” the President stated.
The meeting also delved into preparations for the upcoming election of the AUC Chairperson, a position Kenya is keenly watching as Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga enters the race.
Odinga’s candidacy, backed by President Ruto, underscores Kenya’s active role in shaping the leadership of the continental body.
The discussions between President Ruto and Chairperson Mahamat highlighted Kenya’s broader vision for a stronger, united, and more responsive African Union in tackling pressing issues such as economic development, peace, and security.
