A woman in her late twenties is urging the judiciary to ensure she receives justice after allegedly being raped by a health worker at a private hospital in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Mary Mumbi (not her real name) claims she was raped by Robert Kiplagat on November 16th during a visit to Plainview Hospital for an infection check-up.
The suspect was arrested and arraigned in Ruiru court on November 19th, Kiplagat denied the sexual charges and was released on a bond of Ksh 400,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh 200,000.
Narrating her ordeal, Mumbi said that during her hospital visit, the gynaecologist in charge recommended a pelvic scan and referred her to the radiology room for the procedure.
She explained that upon entering the room, the suspect described the process while instructing her to face the wall. During the procedure, Mumbi became suspicious and turned around, only to find the suspect exposing himself. She screamed and fled, alerting other hospital staff.
Mumbi added that the suspect denied attempting to rape her, instead claiming to have used another object that was not medically appropriate.
Police officers from Ruiru Police Station were called to the scene and arrested the radiologist.
Mary hopes justice will prevail. Meanwhile, other medical organizations in Kiambu have joined the case and are pursuing legal action against the hospital.
The hospital through a press release yesterday 24th November admitted that one of their employees is under active investigation for alleged sexual harassment.
The management condemned the act adding that they are also doing internal investigations as well as cooperating with other agencies to ensure a thorough and impartial enquiry.
The case will be mentioned on December 17th at Ruiru Law Courts.
