Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have apprehended a suspected drug trafficker, Quinter Achieng Matengo, and seized 2,000 grams of Cannabis Sativa.
The 27-year-old suspect was intercepted while attempting to travel to Doha, Qatar. Collaborating with Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) staff, ANU detectives identified suspicious items during a routine luggage screening.
A further search at the ANU offices revealed the suspect had concealed the cannabis in packets of maize flour. Unaware of the vigilant efforts of the officers, her attempt to smuggle the drugs was foiled.
The seized drugs were weighed and secured, while the suspect was processed in preparation for arraignment in court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating the sale, distribution, trafficking, and use of illicit drugs during the festive season and beyond.
