SEASONED JOURNALIST ERIC LATIFF BIDS FAREWELL TO SPICE FM AFTER 6 YEARS
In a detailed message on his X account, Latiff wrote his reflections on a Remarkable Journey.
He wrote:
At exactly 6 a.m. on August 20, 2019, four people stepped into a brand-new studio, embarking on an uncharted journey. That morning, I switched on four microphones with excitement and trepidation. Launching yet another station was exhilarating, but questions lingered—would it work? Would the audience embrace four hours of non-stop talk during their busy morning commute?
Together with CT Muga, Ndu Okoh, and Njeri Thorne, we approached the challenge with dedication and an unshakable belief in our mission. Behind the scenes, our producer Brian Evusa and Programmes Controller Brian Obara ensured everything ran smoothly. Though not in the studio, Radio General Manager Tom Japanni’s presence and support were invaluable.
The journey to building The Situation Room into what it is today has been nothing short of incredible. What started as an idea has become a platform for Kenya’s Biggest Conversations—a space where thought leaders, community influencers, professionals, and duty-bearers come together to engage in meaningful dialogue.
None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of producers, marketers, commercial teams, technical staff, and countless colleagues who contributed to the show’s success. Most importantly, I am grateful for you, our audience.
Whether you tuned in via radio, TV, or digital platforms, your calls, texts, compliments, and suggestions have been the lifeblood of the show. Knowing we sparked conversations that resonated with you has been humbling and rewarding.
Today, on January 6, 2025, I bid kwaheri to the incredible team at Spice FM and the Standard Group. My heart is heavy, but it is also full of gratitude.
I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of Kenya’s oldest private media house and proud of the amazing teams I leave behind in radio, TV, and print.
I’ve always been drawn to the thrill of starting something new. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of being at the forefront of innovation—whether it was launching Kenya’s first 24-hour religious media house (Family FM and Family TV), the first 24-hour vernacular radio station (Kameme FM), or the first 24-hour news and information TV station (K24).
Is there room for something new? Always. The spirit of innovation never fades, and I hope to be part of creating something fresh once again.
Wish me luck on this next chapter, and stay tuned—I’ll keep you posted.
All the best to the veteran journalist in his future endeavours.
