Pressure mounts on UDA SG Hassan Omar over Mombasa remarks
Calls for the investigation and possible arrest of UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan continue to intensify following controversial remarks he made during a political rally in Mombasa last week.
Renowned Kikuyu elder and Chief Seer Munyori Wa Kinyenje has now joined a growing list of leaders and opinion shapers demanding action against the UDA official, urging the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to open investigations into the matter.
Speaking in Thika, Kinyenje said the remarks attributed to Omar were reckless and could heighten tensions among communities at a time when the country is slowly entering the political season ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He warned that failure by the relevant authorities to act decisively could encourage inflammatory political rhetoric that may undermine national unity and peaceful coexistence.
The pressure on Omar has been mounting over the past week, with a section of leaders from the Kikuyu community calling for his resignation as UDA secretary general and demanding legal action against him.
Kinyenje argued that the statements made at the Mombasa rally were divisive and risk fueling ethnic animosity if left unchecked.
Despite the backlash, Omar has remained defiant and has so far resisted calls to step down from his position within the ruling party.
