KSH 55 MILLION SPORTS ACADEMY LAUNCHED IN THIKA
The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Sports, Elijah Mwangi, has officially broken ground for the construction of a modern Sports Academy at Kimuchu Grounds in Thika Town Constituency.
The KSh 55 million facility is set to feature a wide range of sporting amenities including a football pitch, courts for volleyball, basketball, and netball, an athletics track, a swimming pool, state-of-the-art changing rooms, spacious social halls, and a borehole.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, PS Mwangi confirmed that construction would begin immediately and is expected to be completed within four months.
He emphasized that the academy is designed to nurture grassroots talent and provide young athletes with the necessary infrastructure to excel.
Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a hailed the development as a historic milestone for the constituency, noting its potential to transform local sporting activities.
She called on the contractor to prioritize hiring local workers to foster community support and avoid delays.
