Stanley Njuguna Kabui, the prime suspect in the murder of Lucy Wamaitha
A Thika court will deliver a ruling on 27th March on whether to grant homicide detectives 15 more days to detain Stanley Njuguna Kabui, the prime suspect in the murder of Lucy Wamaitha, as they finalize investigations.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo, Sergeant Reuben Mwaniki of the DCI Homicide Unit in Nairobi argued that the extension was necessary to complete the probe.
He revealed that DNA samples taken from the victimβs mother were released on 21st March, enabling the prosecution to formally charge Njuguna with murder.
However, the defense, led by Counsel Grace Kinyua, opposed the application, arguing that the suspect had been in custody long enough and that the investigation should have been concluded earlier.
After hearing both sides, the magistrate deferred the ruling to Wednesday, 27th March.
Lucy Wamaithaβs dismembered body parts were discovered along the banks of River Tana on 2nd January, weeks after she went missing on 16th December.
She was last seen having lunch with Njuguna in Embu town before her phone was switched off that afternoon.
The case has drawn significant attention as investigators work to piece together the final moments of the deceased and establish the suspect’s involvement.
