
Preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) gained momentum as CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed, and outgoing Sports Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen wrapped up a series of key activities aimed at ensuring Kenya’s readiness to co-host the tournament.
The day commenced with an extensive tour of key facilities slated for the event. The delegation visited Kasarani, Nyayo, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadiums to assess ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
Dr. Motsepe expressed optimism about Kenya’s progress, saying, “I am impressed with the advancements made since my last visit. The support from the government, led by President William Ruto and Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, has been exceptional. I am confident Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, will deliver the best CHAN tournament in history.”
The tour concluded with a pivotal meeting at State House, where H.E. President Dr. William Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a successful tournament. Discussions centered on infrastructure timelines and Kenya’s readiness to welcome teams and fans from across Africa.
“We are leaving no stone unturned in preparing for CHAN 2024,” President Ruto noted. “Renovations at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums are on schedule, and Ulinzi Sports Complex, Police Sacco Stadium, and Kirigiti Stadium are progressing well. We are confident these facilities will be ready ahead of the championship.”
FKF President Hussein Mohammed expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from both the government and CAF. “We sincerely thank President Ruto’s government for its commitment and CAF, led by Dr. Motsepe, for their trust. Kenya is determined to deliver a successful tournament,” he stated.
Outgoing Sports CS Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen echoed the sentiments, emphasizing the urgency of the preparations. “CAF has challenged us to meet strict timelines, and I’m pleased to report that we are on track. The government is fully committed to ensuring the success of CHAN 2024.”
Dr. Motsepe’s visit concluded with his departure from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, as he continues his East African tour in Uganda to finalize CHAN-related activities.
