MKU Roars to Top Honours in Nairobi North University League
Mount Kenya University has reaffirmed its sporting dominance after emerging among the top-performing institutions at the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) Nairobi North Conference League, clinching multiple titles and institutional awards in a highly competitive season.
Following seven months of intensive preparations, the university posted an impressive showing across a range of disciplines, earning recognition as Best Private University, Best Host University, and Most Punctual University, while also finishing as the 1st Runners-Up Overall Winning University.
The conference, regarded as
one of the most competitive editions in recent years, saw universities battle for supremacy in both team and individual sports, with MKU standing out for consistency and depth.
The university secured 10 championship titles, dominating in 3×3 basketball for both men and women, woodball for men and women, women’s taekwondo, women’s table tennis, men’s karate, men’s darts, and badminton for both men and women.
MKU also posted strong second-place finishes in men’s basketball, athletics for both men and women, women’s karate, swimming for men and women, men’s table tennis, and women’s tennis.
In addition, the institution claimed third-place finishes in women’s basketball, women’s football, men’s hockey, women’s netball, men’s volleyball, men’s chess, women’s darts, and scrabble for both men and women.
Speaking after the competition, MKU Head of Sports, Creative and Performing Arts, Mr. William Luta, hailed the athletes for their dedication and discipline throughout the season.
He said the league had been highly competitive, noting that months of hard work, sacrifice, and determination had finally paid off for the university and its athletes.
MKU Dean of Students, Dr. Emmanuel Owour, praised the students’ performance, saying the results underscored the university’s commitment to supporting sports development as a key pillar of student growth and excellence.
Other universities also recorded notable performances, with Kenyatta University emerging as the overall winner, while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) finished third overall and also earned the award for Most Disciplined University.
Mama Ngina University College was recognised as the Most Improved University, while St. Paul’s University received the Best Fair Play Award.
Beyond medals and trophies, the KUSF Nairobi North Conference League highlighted the growing competitiveness of university sports in Kenya, celebrating resilience, teamwork, and talent development among institutions.
