Kagame Challenges Newly Commissioned Officers to Serve with Dedication
President Paul Kagame has called on Rwanda’s newly commissioned military officers to embrace resilience, service, and responsibility as they embark on their careers, reminding them that the nation’s future lies in their hands.
Speaking at the Officer Cadets Commissioning Ceremony in Gako, where over 1,000 new officers were conferred with the rank of Second Lieutenant, Kagame stressed that despite Rwanda’s notable progress, the country still has a long journey ahead.
“No one should think that just because we are making progress, there is room for complacency. We are not where we want to be yet. The journey is still long. There is still a lot of work to do, and it requires your service and resilience,” Kagame told the graduates.
He commended the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) for its role in building and developing the nation, urging the officers to carry forward this legacy. “By joining this profession, that is what the country expects from each and every one of you, both now and in the future.”
The Head of State reminded the officers that their foremost duty was to serve the Rwandan people—the very communities they come from. “When you serve Rwandans, your brothers and sisters, you are working for yourself,” he said.
Kagame emphasized that Rwanda’s future is in the hands of its youth and encouraged the officers to maximize their potential. “We see your potential; use it to the best of your abilities. We have high expectations of you.”
The ceremony, graced by President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame, marked a significant milestone for the RDF, as the country continues to strengthen its defence forces while investing in the discipline and leadership of its young officers.
