Scholars urged to Turn Academic Journals into Books to Enrich Kenyan Knowledge Base
Former Cabinet Secretary for Education and current Chief executive officer Kenya Scouts Association, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, has called on lecturers and scholars to convert their academic journals into books to strengthen Kenya’s knowledge base and reduce dependence on imported academic materials.
Speaking during the launch of Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene’s autobiography, Rooted in Hope, at Zetech University, Kaimenyi emphasized the importance of producing more locally authored academic content that reflects Kenyan experiences and intellect.
Development economist Dr. Thomas Kibua supported the call, urging academics to rethink their reliance on foreign publications and instead write books that highlight Kenya’s history, academic growth, and community stories. He further encouraged scholars to embrace positive values that foster hope and optimism in society.
Prof. Njenga Munene’s autobiography, Rooted in Hope, captures his journey of family, friendship, professional growth, and community service, portraying resilience and the power of hope.
Prof. Munene joined Zetech University in 2018 from Egerton University, where he served as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance. A Professor of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, he played a key role in enhancing Egerton’s infrastructure and academic standing.
He is a Kenya Veterinary Board–registered surgeon, a trustee of the Kenya Veterinary Association, and actively participates in community development as a board member of two high schools. He holds a PhD, MSc, and Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi, and pursued advanced studies at Obihiro University in Japan.
