Deputy Kithure Kindiki addressing Kiambu constituents in Ndumberi
DP VOWS CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR SMALL TRADERS IN KIAMBU
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting small-scale traders, saying the time has come to focus on ordinary Kenyans who form the backbone of the economy.
Speaking in Ndumberi, Kiambu Constituency, the DP said the administration is deliberately shifting attention from large businesses to small traders under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
Kindiki said the government is constructing 23 new markets across Kiambu County to provide traders with dignified and secure business spaces.
“Every constituency in Kiambu is getting a new market,” he noted, adding that the initiative aims to empower mama mbogas, boda boda riders, and other micro-entrepreneurs.
According to the DP, empowering small-scale traders means creating a better business environment and improving access to capital so that they can grow their enterprises and improve their livelihoods.
He criticized leaders opposing these initiatives, challenging them to present alternative policies rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric.
“If anyone has a better idea, let them come forward. But they must not incite hatred or division among Kenyans,” he said.
The second in command underscored the importance of national unity, particularly for communities such as the people of Central Kenya, who rely heavily on trade across the country.
“We want one peaceful Kenya where every citizen can live and work in harmony,” Kindiki said.
He also assured residents that the government had secured funds to complete the Mau Mau roads and other infrastructure projects that had stalled in recent years.
